Any progress on this, or any further information?

Is there a way to dance around this issue in one way or another (patch Octave
program, or even patch Octave code & rebuild)?

Can I help in any way? I should mention that I'm not an expert in linear
algebra or Octave, but I'm not afraid to take a deep dive...
