Follow-up Comment #3, bug #53186 (project octave):

I ran the attached modifed dump_plot_demos (a single invisible figure is used
for all plots) in order to compare figures generated with osmesa's context and
with Qt's offscreen context:
* no evident visual difference
* timings are comparable
* timings are sometimes much smaller than with a visible figure
