Follow-up Comment #8, bug #53299 (project octave): @Mike: That's a potentially nasty bug. I could see a test suite starting Octave, querying a random seed and placing it in a file along with the results of tests. This should allow anyone doing debugging to pull up the file, restore Octave to the original state, and then reproduce a failing test.
