Follow-up Comment #8, bug #53392 (project octave):
Yes, I know; one of those inexplicable things. I can see that the two windows
are drawing back and forth, and the focus changes along with it, about a half
dozen times. It could be a KDE bug. I will step back through the patches I
created for 53276 and see exactly where this bug (53392) seems to go away.
