Follow-up Comment #1:
There's not much that can be done about this. Your makeinfo program is too old
to be able to handle the way Octave doc strings are formatted now. Octave
doesn't do any kind of runtime feature or version checking of the makeinfo
program.
We have discussed this and there was a consensus that the formatting is too
important to try to accommodate very old versions of Texinfo, so the
codequoteundirected command will stay.
You could patch the file doc/interpreter/macros.texi on your own build if you
want to remove the offending command. Otherwise, it is automatically imported
into every doc string on every help command.
Do you have other suggestions?
