I think you are running into a bug that has already been fixed for the upcoming Octave 4.4.0 release. I do get different results with Octave 4.2.2 Cap = 8.77708741856431e-04 4.70169440013818e-03 6.78745764954011e-02 5.23807925052996e+00 Cap = 8.77708741856431e-04 4.70169440013818e-03 6.78745764954011e-02 -8.48285132344668e-32 But the same correct results in the development version of Octave that will become Octave 4.4.
