Follow-up Comment #27, bug #53392 (project octave):
It helped fix or circumvent the crash on my Linux systems(KDE/Plasma), and it
has no negative consequences on Windows. Good!
There never were issues on Windows like the one described in the original bug
report anyway.
So I'm in favor of just applying the patch in comment #13, so that this issue
is out of the way in a separate bug fix.
>From there on other bugs can be fixed separately, like you suggest.
