Follow-up Comment #17, bug #54217 (project octave): Thanks. It looks like configure is setting the FPICFLAG variable to be '-KPIC' on your system, even though the Fortran compiler is GNU gfortran. This is an Octave flag and Octave logic, not an Autoconf bug. I've opened bug #54235 for that, please follow that report.
