Follow-up Comment #1, bug #54241 (project octave):

Can you provide a patch or hg changeset that fixes the documentation?

Note that the lookup function is used by several Octave Forge packages
(communcations, database, general, geometry, image, interval, splines,
statistics), including the "b", "m", and "l" options. If the interface is
changed it should be coordinated with the appropriate packages.

But I am also unclear on lookup, I have to relearn how it works every time I
look at it, so I can't say if the options are useful or unnecessary at the
moment.
