Follow-up Comment #1:
First, version 4.0.3 is ancient and no longer supported. You should upgrade
to the latest stable version 5.1.0 as there have been many positive changes.
But, that won't address the particular issue you identified. I think the
capability for the dimension argument to be a vector is a relatively new
addition to Matlab. I have changed the issue report to be a request to
implement this feature in Octave.
