It is actually the double difference:
octave:1> C = sparse (ones (2))
C =
Compressed Column Sparse (rows = 2, cols = 2, nnz = 4 [100%])
(1, 1) -> 1
(2, 1) -> 1
(1, 2) -> 1
(2, 2) -> 1
octave:2> a = C - C
a =
Compressed Column Sparse (rows = 2, cols = 2, nnz = 0 [0%])
octave:3> b = a - a
b =
Compressed Column Sparse (rows = 2, cols = 2, nnz = 0 [0%])
octave:4> inv(b)
error: inv: sparse_lu: symbolic factorization failed
octave:4> inv(a)
Thread 10 "QThread" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
