The Texinfo version shouldn't matter if this is the same bug.

Nir - are you sure you are experiencing this bug? Specifically, do you see
make report that it's building, for example, interpft.eps, followed by an
error building octave.dvi, and then you can confirm that interpft.eps doesn't
exist?

The specific symptom that this bug report is about is not just Texinfo failing
to build for some reason (like in your message to the mailing list), but that
Octave is asked to build an image file in doc/interpreter, it exits with
success, make continues, but the image file was not actually generated.
