Follow-up Comment #3, bug #56989 (project octave):

Yes, after a restart the undocked command window is fully functional and
nicely at the previous (undocked) location and with the size it had before
restarting Octave.
It is really the closing/re-showing action that is buggy. Should provide ample
clues to hunt this down I guess :-)
