I pushed a fix for mkdir here:
https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/4563c23597dd.
The change for rmdir is also simple, but it upset BIST tests and functionality
in more than 20 m-files. I have it ready, but I think the 6.0 code should be
merged to stable, before this disruptive development goes on. I will ask
about this on the Maintainer's list.
