Follow-up Comment #1:

Thank you for the bug report. Both of your examples give the same results as
Matlab and SciPy's square function. So I don't think we want to change the
behavior of the function or add an option that changes the behavior.

If what you want is a square wave series with only 2 samples per period or
some other small integer, it's likely there are way more reliable and more
efficient ways to generate that than using the square function.
