Follow-up Comment #51, bug #49503 (project octave): I think most of what we can do from the MXE Octave side is done now. But the issue in the bug title isn't really solved for all imaginable use cases. I think it is impossible to fix that generally. Packages should still move towards not using Octave in their build process. But imho that should be tracked in reports that are specific to each affected package.
