Follow-up Comment #2, bug #59236 (project octave):

The directories used for installation of libraries and other files may all be
customized by someone when configuring and building Octave.  See the
descriptions of variables like prefix, libdir, infodir, etc. in the output of
"configure --help" if you are building Octave from source.  The directories
used when your copy was configured are also stored in the Octave binary.  See
the output of the __octave_config_info__ command in Octave.

If there is any issue here, maybe it is just that we could improve the
documentation?

Long ago, we edited the values of the local configuration into the
documentation sources.  But that causes another set of problems.  Not only
does it complicate the build system, but then docs found online may not have
the same directories as your local installation.

Maybe what we need is to be clearer that these directory names shown in the
manual may be different in your local installation and show how to find the
actual location in case the installation was cusomized?
