Follow-up Comment #5, bug #59478 (project octave):

FWIW, as a workaround you can use the sequence Esc followed by f or b instead
of holding down Alt+f or Alt+b, if you need to use these readline functions
and are averse to Ctrl + cursor keys for some reason.
