Follow-up Comment #2, bug #59612 (project octave):

As you remarked, and I verified as well, this has been fixed in version 6.1.0
which is the latest stable version of Octave.  Version 5.2 is deprecated and
no longer supported.  If you must use version 5.2 you could print to svg
format and then adjust the size of the legend text and box manually using and
svg editor such as Inkscape.
