Follow-up Comment #12:

After Pantxo's change, I see the following:

>> hf = figure();
>> huic = uicontrol(hf, "style", "edit", "string", 1);
error: __go_uicontrol__: set: invalid string property value for "string",
unable to create graphics handle
error: called from
    uicontrol at line 132 column 8


This looks more useful than the previous, more generic error message.

Closing as fixed.
