It is no problem being a new user with Octave or new to free and open-source
software, being polite, patient and a little skilled you can make a lot out of
Octave for free.  A paid alternative to Octave should be easy to find by a web
search engine of your choice 😉

Your other problems are really trivial even for my students to solve. 
Homework assignment: please read the following error message and mark the
right solution (time 5 seconds).

[ ] Create an account at the software bug tracker and be as rude as possible.
