Follow-up Comment #14, bug #60316 (project octave):

That's great that gnulib takes care of the optimizations.

I did manage to update and use a new version of gnulib (hint for future
readers, you need to comment out GNULIB_REVISION in bootstrap.conf).  However,
I still get the warning messages.  I took a look at 'git log' and there have
been several check-ins that touch intprops.h.  For example, gnulib has
disabled the HW-based __builtin commands for the clang compiler, and also for
the gcc compiler versions 5 & 6.
