Follow-up Comment #5, bug #60358 (project octave): I don't know how gnuplot operates internally and whether it uses OpenGL. Most likely it depends a lot on which output terminal you select. Octave offers several backend toolkits that can be used for plotting ("qt", "fltk", "gnuplot"). "gnuplot" is just one of the choices, but it isn't the preferred choice. See bug #60354.
