Follow-up Comment #23, bug #60413 (project octave):

than one digit, or when _parameter_ is followed by a character that is not to
be interpreted as part of its name.
I almost never use braces in shell scripts when a variable is clearly
separated from surrounding text by spaces or punctuation.
