Follow-up Comment #18, bug #55427 (project octave):
Indeed, loading the individual .mat files directly into Matlab gives the exact
same RAM usage as when loading them through a combined -v7 .mat file prepared
by Octave.
With that issue checked I suppose this bug has been fixed & can be closed.
I can still check next week with the original .mat files that provoked this
bug report just to be sure, but I doubt if that'll yield surprises.
