Follow-up Comment #1, bug #60896 (project octave):
If you type
pkg list io
Where does it say io was installed?
If it is a local version and was installed by a different version of octave
that installed it, you need to reinstall it in octave 6 (or uninstall it, and
use the one that came with the octave 6.2 install.
If it is not a locally installed package, something else may be wrong.
