Follow-up Comment #27, bug #36658 (project octave):
I noticed this report again because Kai changed the status to "Patch
Submitted".
At this point, with our long history of new syntax and semantics causing
trouble with compatibility (whether currently or in the future because of
changes in Matlab) I propose that we either make no change and hope that there
are no future changes to Matlab that cause trouble for Octave or we deprecate
global and persistent variable initialization.
