Follow-up Comment #5:

I have re-opened this bug report and backed out the changeset 
 mentioned in comment #4. Several regressions with the package-internal use of
tfdata showed up while preparing the upcoming release 3.4.0 of the control
package.

This issue will be addressed again after the release of control 3.4.0.
