Follow-up Comment #15:

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do. But maybe take a look at
`demo trimesh` if you'd like to plot a surface on an irregular grid.

Re-titling this for the missing warning of `griddata` which might have
clarified that that function cannot be used for that task. Like its name
suggests, it's meant to be used for plotting on a (regular) grid.
