Follow-up Comment #9, bug #61754 (project octave):

I don't think it got reviewed yet. I am not sure about the `xtest`s I have
added for the spline method. Maybe they should be removed again an added in a
separate patch, but they are there for consistency.

Besides the patch in comment #7, you might also want to have a look at the PDF
from comment #2. It tries to explain the approach and might help at reviewing
the code.
