Do you have any idea about the best way to accomplish that? I don't have much
experience on Windows these days; and maybe more importantly, I can't test
it.

Certainly while installing files from the build tree to the installation image
this is true, but *within* the installation image it has the downside of
causing unnecessary copies, chmods, and chowns. I won't die on that hill but
it bears mentioning.
