Thanks for confirmatoin!

I re-run my tests on Octave 5.2.0 (as part of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS release), and I
get exactly the same performance as with Octave 6.1.0 (built from source by
myself. Sources NEWS says version 6.1.0 (2020-11-26)).
