When canonicalizing the path, patterns are used to detect if the input was a
mapped network share. If it is possible to map a server (as opposed to a
share), the patterns might need to be adapted.

Other things that you could try could be testing if you can `cd` to that
mapped drive. What does `canonicalize_file_name` return for a file on that
mapped drive? Does `which *mfile*` work for an .m file in the current
directory on a mapped drive?
