Follow-up Comment #17, bug #63415 (project octave):

Yes, if this bug is to be reproduced, doing so on Debian Sid would be the most
promising route. Once the release candidate is made for Octave 8.1, it will be
tested in various distros including Debian and that should hopefully trap the
error, whether it's in Octave or an external library.

The "official" Octave on the Debian Sid is still 7.3 as of now.
