Follow-up Comment #8, bug #63462 (project octave):

The only thing I noticed that you are are using pcre rather than pcre2. 
I tried to rebuild with pcre, but pcre2 got linked in anyway though some other
libraries. So it is not a clean test. 
Could perhaps rebuild against pcre2? You may need to install 
libpcre2-dev for that.
