Follow-up Comment #1:
That's not a minus operator (numeric code 45). Instead you seem to have
copy-pasted from a website or a PDF which uses the typographic minus sign
(bytes 226 136 146, or hex representation E2 88 92) which is not an Octave
operator.
Replace all instances with the minus operator on your keyboard, and it will
work.
Closing as invalid.
