Follow-up Comment #36, bug #48690 (project octave):
it appears that statistics no longer shadows cov and mode in octave core, so
the behavior that was reported as fixed in this report still exists for those
functions. (mean, median, std, var are still shadowed by statistics as of
1.5.4, those versions compatibly handle empty inputs, and were pushed to core
with patch #10134). cov and mode incompatibility in core is also covered in
bug #50583, so will leave this report closed and any other function fixes can
happen over there.
