Sorry collapse of character the fltk screen shot perhaps comes from other 
origin.
I have replaced __print_parse_opts__.m by original one. The collapse was 
occurred. 
Seeing your patch, it is obvious that your changeset is not origin of the 
strange behaviors.

First time I execute ./run-octave, the characters had be shown correctly.

HMMM? What's wrong?

Anyway I think that the chanset can be applied to solve white space issue in 
the path of external
applications (ghostscript, pstoedit and fig2dev) on windows.
