After I run sudo apt-get install build-dep octave3.2, 'gm` is in the
package graphicsmagick which was not installed then. I must ran 'sudo
apt-get install graphicsmagick' to run the 'gm` command.
The output in http://paste.ubuntu.com/877099/ is the one produced
after I 'rebuilt' graphicsmagick in step 9. So it's the
original one. In step 9 a file graphicsmagick_1.3.12-1build1_i386.deb
was also created. Now I install it with sudo dpkg --install
graphicsmagick_1.3.12-1build1_i386.deb. The output of 'gm -version' is
http://paste.ubuntu.com/877596/

So sorry I didn't notice this question. Now after I install gm with
dpkg command, and run 'gm identify myimage.png`, it says
myimage.png PNG 724x464+0+0 DirectClass 8-bit 299.2K 0.000u 0:01
Thank you!
