(You mention boost, but like the C99 standard, the current C++ standard only specifies erf and erfc for real arguments, nor does it include a scaled error function.)
The objection to this in general is: if you won't include support for a complex error function until it is incorporated into the C or C++ standard library, you may be waiting a long .... long .... long .... time.
