​On Fedora 23 it works as expected....​

I use Octave 4.0.1-rc1 on Ubuntu 14.10.

For me the figure fails to resize automatically in both cases (maximizing or shrinking back to the original size).

But switching to any other window and then switching back to the figure window (ALT+TAB twice) triggers the rise.
