When retreiving source code it may need mercurial and git. But if you already have source code(or tarball) and all dependencies are ready, you don't need git any more.

VCS softwares, like Git, are usually not regarded as dependecies.

I think the list is to compile the release tarball. git is needed if you are
compiling a hg snapshot.
