Follow-up Comment #58, patch #9980 (project octave):

'numerical.json' was just to show that 'fromJSON', under proper circumstances,
is no slouch on conversion speed, even for big files.  (obviously, no match
for pending release of 'jsondecode').  In case you want to compare out of two
decoders, element-by-element, I had included a smaller version,
'numerical_small.json', for easier content inspection.  

On texinfo, thanks for your edits (and double checking the function outputs). 
I'm okay with your changes.  I did make style change to your edit in
'fromJSON'.

On the code comments, I modified them per your style guideline.

On the revision tracking, I'm sorry for clumsy attempt.  I started it to keep
track for myself.  I'm not software dev and am not familiar with best
practices.  I'm more than happy to defer to your judgement.

Thanks for your work in maintaining 'io'.
