Follow-up Comment #2, patch #10295 (project octave):
Yes, it is probably a better idea passing a character vector instead of a
UTF8-encoded string to regexp BIST.
As regards the move towards UTF-16, if this happens in the future, then we
will probably have to "#define PCRE2_CODE_UNIT_WIDTH 16" and link against
libpcre2-16.
