Hello,

I pay what you pay. Good point though. I need to just contact these vendors and arrange better pricing on the RF parts so I can pass it along to everyone. Consider it on my task list for ASAP.

Remember, PPZUAV isn't here to be the most inexpensive way to get your parts. Sometimes we can be (Look at the cost for TWOG and Tiny2.11). Our goal is to stay in business. You have seen what happens when people think this is easy money, startup, then find it's very time consuming and difficult to keep people happy. :)

We want to charge a fair price for both you and us so that we can continue to keep everyone happy. If cost is the only reason there are alternatives and we are ok with that. We welcome it. We know others who want to supply paparazzi parts will find this is far from easy money. It's a lot of work and for us something we just like to do. Meaning it's not the money but the satisfaction of helping that keeps us working so hard.

When we save money you save (Tiny2.11 used to cost 325.00) so trust us. If we can get it for less we will gladly pass along the savings.

Hi David,

I already ordered the ZNet 2.5 modules and will probably just upgrade the firmware. But thanks for the offer! Also I'm a bit surprised why they should be so much more expensive, you can get them from digi (in the US) directly for $36 or so... If you don't mind me asking why did you have so high costs getting them?

Great work with PPZUAV by the way!

Cheers,
Felix

Hello Felix,

I own PPZUAV (FYI). I may have those modules in stock. I bought some from Digi to test with. How many did you need?

They are more expensive. I need to make them up to cover my costs to get them. Approx 125.00 each. I just haven't listed them on the web store because no one has used them yet to endorse them.

Hey guys,

Farnell and Co. don't have the newer versions. But I had a closer look at the different options:

There are currently 4 different kinds of the XBee modules. Always with a PRO (long range) and a standard (low Power) version.
Interesting for paparazzi are the PRO versions:

XBee-PRO ZB (the current series)
XBee-PRO ZNet 2.5 (formerly Series 2) (only legacy -> use XBee-PRO ZB)
The XBee & XBee-PRO ZB share hardware with XBee & XBee-PRO ZNet 2.5. As a result, modules can be "converted" from one platform to another by loading different firmware onto a given module.

These two also share the same hardware and can be converted from one to another:
XBee-PRO DigiMesh 2.4
XBee-PRO 802.15.4 (formerly Series 1)

So this probably solves my issue.... I'll just get a XBee-PRO ZNet 2.5 module and upgrade the firmware to XBee-PRO ZB.

@Buzz: Sorry I can't wait 2 more weeks, I was supposed to get the modules last Monday....
But it's really good to hear your plans for a European Paparazzi supplier!

Another question:
Did anyone have any difficulties getting any of the PRO modules in the US Version shipped to Europe? (there are also european versions with a J at the end of the part number, but there the maximum power is limitied by the hardware to 10mW. In order to use the US version with a max of 50mW or so here in Europe one just hast to set the appropriate command to 0 in order to stay within the legal limit in Europe)
And has anyone tested the max range of the US version compared to the dialed down 10mW European version?

Cheers,
Felix

Felix,

You could try Farnell or RS in the UK.  The both have branches throughout Europe.

Subject: [Paparazzi-devel] where to get XBee Pro ZB modules?

Hi guys,

does anyone know where to get the Digi XBee Pro ZB modules in Europe? I could not find a single supplier so far. Digikey has them, but does not ship them to Europe.
I'm looking for the XBP24-Z7SIT-004 (with the RP-SMA connector) and the XBP24-Z7WIT-004 (with the integrated wired antenna). Or the new DigiMesh Pro modules, they have the same hardware and just different firmware.
PPZUAV and sparkfun only have the old XBee Pro ZNet 2.5 modules...

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Felix
