Re: [Paparazzi-devel] OS X Usage Poll

Hello,

I spoke too soon I think. There are still a few issues.

First, paparazzi center on Mountain Lion is still broken (known issue) in that it can not start other processes (however, you should be able to do everything else, and start programs/agents from the command line instead).

The current macports won't work with Snow Leopard, due to gcc-arm-embedded requiring apple's builtin python 2.7. This can certainly be fixed if necessary, but not sure if it is worth spending the time on it.

So, is there anyone still using Snow Leopard?? If not, I don't want to spend time supporting it if time could be better spent making paparazzi work on Mountain Lion instead. It shouldn't be hard to revive support for Snow Leopard if absolutely necessary, but if no one is actively using it, I would like to drop support for it. If this is the case, I can upgrade the snow leopard machine to provide a lion build machine instead, which will improve availability of Lion binary installers.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
-Stephen Dwyer

Hello all,

The OS X installation for MacPorts should be working now. If anyone has a chance to try it out, that would be appreciated. If you do end up having a problem, please post to the list, and ideally, post the log file pointed to by the error message somewhere (pastebin, a dropbox link, something like that).

One thing to note, master may not be working with simulation right now on OS X (there seems to be a linking problem, if anyone can test and/or knows how to fix it, it would be appreciated). This shouldn't affect v4.2 I don't think.

The binary installers are currently unavailable because there are no build machines available. If anyone is willing to volunteer a Lion and/or Mountain Lion machine for use with the CI build server, it would be appreciated. Note that this works best if the machine is left on all the time. (On that note, newer linux machines (ubuntu, debian?) would also be appreciated...). See here: http://paparazzi.enac.fr/wiki/Builds/Bamboo

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to post the mailing list.

Thanks,

Hello all,

Just a warning the OS X installation is probably broken at the moment, and the binary installer links are also broken. This is being worked on, but takes time. Please let me know if there are any major concerns.

Hi Stephen,

I haven't tried the Mac OSX build yet, but I'm using a gstreamer framework build available from here:

This contains a number of glib, gio, libxml, z and other libraries that paparazzi might need. It could be one way
to reduce the complexity and build times?

They also have a build environment called "Cerbero". Instructions available here:

Never tried building that either, I just went with the packages.

Hello,

Thanks to those who have replied so far.

I will try and get the macports setup working more smoothly again with some updates and also try to get the binaries working properly again. They are a bit finicky to build unfortunately, and take a LONG time. Is a binary installer the preferred method?

For Mountain Lion, it is a known issue, and several people have tried to solve the problem unsuccessfully thus far. Unfortunately I don't have ML, but may investigate at a later date. You can still run paparazzi, you just can't use paparazzi center to start the different agents; it must all be done manually from the command line.

Hello Stephen,

I am on Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and tried to get Paparazzi so work first with the binary installer and then with macports. Both didn't work, don't know the details anymore, but moved to a Ubuntu VM and the installation of Paparazzi was simple and straight forward.

However, I would prefer Paparazzi on OS X.

Kind regards

Lothar
