That seems to be the right question. I want to believe there is a way to move forward and bring along the past knowledge somehow. I will think on the database part as that is something I know about.

Well, the current archive would not disappear... I would not start creating our own archive database. Not sure if you can import posts...

But the main question is if we get any benefits from moving to Google groups in the first place.

What would become of the historical messages in the archive? I still search the archives to find information I use from past topics.

Idea: a mongo (or ?) database to store and keep that contains all those past topics and comments.

Anyone who has not searched the archives should. There are so many things answered and discussed over and over again. New members should first search before writing the list for this reason. Most newbies will fond their answers there.

Now moving to a new way (Google) would to me seem to need to also bring along that history in some form to avoid repeatedly answering already discussed topics. Is there a way? Do I make sense?
