Re: [Paparazzi-devel] A problem getting started with an ARDrone 2

Calibrating the magnetometer helped here. Just a bit, though.

The best result I was able to get today was a stable takeoff, followed about a second later with a landing. the GCS log window (on the bottom right) said something about SAFE, but I can't find a copy of that anywhere in paparazzi/var/log.

Looking at the telemetry logs, it seems like my GPS unit might be faulty - I see the coordinates staying static for long periods of time. I already suspected that the GPS might not be working properly, and I'm waiting for a new GPS unit to arrive. I'm not going to try to fly again with a flaky GPS.

So, I'm guessing that the vehicle is triggering some kind of a failsafe behavior, but I'm not sure which one. Does that sound plausible?

Were you able to fly successfully after calibrating the magnetometer?

I had the same problem as you when I started with the ARDrone - calibrating the magentometer fixed it.

The native s/w does all sorts of clever stuff with the cameras and sonar etc to self-calibrate. Would be cool to get Paparazzi to do the same, but for now, calibration is required!

I have the same problems with ardrone and considered missing
configuration of magnetometer before the flight as potential
reason. However did not yet analyze it further.
