Hi Nathan,

Your requirement of having more than 1kg of payload should not be a big deal. However, keep in mind that a "sufficiently big" quad(hexa,octo...)copter has complex aerodynamics, so the "standard"
controllers will not work just out-of-box. In order to be sure before building anything, just consult in the forum if the size, kind of motors, etc of your machine are suitable and
easy to control with the already implemented controllers. Maybe some users could help you with more specific data.

Hi Nathan,

As far as I know there is no RTF system currently available. As Pascal already mentions, the best approach is to build something yourself. It is not as hard as you might think. You can buy a lot of the parts as a kit that you can put together. One example is the video series that Pascal points out. Alternatively you can now use the Elle0 autopilot together with G0 GPS module and R0 radio telemetry. I am working towards having a more complete tutorial series based on the newer hardware that is available for people like you. I have started with explaining the Elle0 autopilot here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPNSzWRVHuA

I would personally get airframe parts, motors and motor controllers from a place like HobbyKing. As long as you can have SimonK firmware on your motor controllers, and mount your autopilot using a vibration plate like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/181784669956?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true it works well with Elle0 because it has the “right" hole pattern.

I know this is much more work than buying a box from amazon, I am working on making that process easier for everyone, but it will still take some time to get there. In the mean time building your own system has the advantage that you know what is inside and what makes it tick. If you decide to go down that road let me know maybe we can work together documenting your journey. This will be useful for everyone who comes along after you. :)

Cheers,
Piotr

Hey Nathan,

Krooz and KroozSD are names of two flight controllers specially designed for Paparazzi, not a complete UAS. You find some airframes running with Paparazzi in the Wiki (https://wiki.paparazziuav.org/wiki/Gallery). However, these are user built systems, I am not certain if there are any "turn-key" systems available with paparazzi, which are fulfilling your requirements. There is a series of videos made by HAK5 and Piotr Esden-Tempski, one of the developers of paparazzi soft- and hardware, where they show how to assemble and setup a bumblebee quadcopter in Paparazzi (sort of tutorial, https://blog.paparazziuav.org/2014/04/30/drones-101-series-on-hak5-episodes-1-7/).. This is a 550mm frame, therefore quite a bit bigger than the Parrot AR Drone 2.0, might therefore be of interest for your application, however you would need to sort out the FPV equipment by yourself (if requested).

Maybe somebody else knows a bigger complete system in paparazzi..?

Thank you!   Is Krooz a quad-copter?   I can't seem to find any info on it.    Do you have a link with any more info?

Yes,there are some paparazzi drones fit your require. Krooz & Krooz SD should be the idle ones.

主题: [Paparazzi-devel] Bigger Stronger Drone?

Hello mighty Paparazzi Devel!

I have been using the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 with paparazzi and I'm loving it.

We are trying to mount some stuff on the drone and it's getting to be border-line too heavy.

Does anyone know of a larger, stronger drone that could handle more weight?

Ideally we are looking for a drone that can fly out-of-the-box and that will work well with Paparazzi.

...And that can carry a relatively heavy load (maybe double or triple what the AR Drone 2.0 can carry?  Maybe 30+ ounces?).

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated!!

Thanks!

-Nate
