Fullscreen is quite broken on GNU/Linux and causes all shorts of
throuble, I don't expect this to be fixed in the near future, since
fullscreen to work correctly requires a correctly configured X11,
which many people don't have. You can make fullscreen default for
windows, since in general it works there much better. There are also
plans to write a starter application for pingus which allows the user
to make all this tweaks via a little GUI.

Start it with:
pingus -g 640x480
that will make it run in a smaller window, but that will probally
break some GUI elements and other things.
